After six years with my previous company, I decided I needed a change and started to consider what I wanted from a future employer. There were many things I considered to be essential (the same as many candidates!) such as salary, opportunities for career development, training and a strong client portfolio. But the thing that was most important to me was the people that worked there, I had to believe in them. Whether I liked it or not, the stereotypical recruiter focused upon cold calling and hard selling; and unfortunately, this still existed in the wider recruitment market, and if I were to move jobs, I was sure I didn’t want to be ‘that’ guy!
Having recently achieved certifications in Prince2, Lean Six Sigma and becoming a Scrum Master, when looking for a new role I also considered opportunities out with recruitment. I’m passionate about Change and Project Management and was very seriously considering a move into the sector myself after successfully recruiting for it on so many occasions. I nonetheless decided to keep my options open and interviewed for a role at Meraki Talent as well as exploring those within a project environment. After a few meetings with the team at Meraki Talent, I knew it was the next place for me. The passion for recruitment, level of transparency and the ‘likeability’ I felt during the recruitment process made my decision easy.
Now 9 weeks in, I’ve loved it so far. Everything I was looking for has been made available to me. I’ve been given regular training sessions, one to ones and I’ve been working with a great selection of clients. I’m specialising solely in permanent change and project management roles, which lends itself both to the qualifications I have as well as engaging my own personal interest in the field. I can look forward to an exciting few years ahead, with the political landscape as it is, acquisitions, integrations and migrations aplenty, the financial services sector is prepared for change. Exactly how this will look we’ll have to wait and see, but one thing is for sure is I expect to be kept very busy!
