Rotterdam, often thought of as Amsterdam’s “rival city”, is a major logistical and economic centre in the Netherlands with the largest port in Europe. The city is known for its maritime heritage and modern architecture. There are a large number of multinational and international companies based in Rotterdam meaning there are various opportunities available for expats.
In both locations, English is widely spoken and there is a diverse population. Getting around in the Netherlands is easy as public transport services are fantastic (in addition to cycling being hugely popular). Schiphol Airport is accessible with fantastic rail and road links and is in a central location in Europe, making it quick and easy to travel to other parts of Europe. Both Amsterdam and Rotterdam are approximately 30-minutes away from Schiphol Airport on the train.
