A Month with Meraki

Career Ready is a programme for young people aged 16-18. This programme gives young ,including me ,a placement in a workplace which then gives them experience of being out in a work environment and learn new skills which help in the future.  

I am 16 and hoping to become a criminal defence lawyer. My placement is with Meraki Talent which has helped me gain confidence, overcome fears and understand how a work environment is and what to expect for my future.  

So far, Meraki Talent has been a very enjoyable, unexpected adventure which I am very grateful that I was given the opportunity to have. I have learned how to deal with and mix with all different age groups which helps for my future.

Before I joined, I expected my full day to be consumed with phone calls and a complete silent office where nobody talked. Meraki Talent has taught me how an office works in a way you would never learn in school or working in a supermarket. For instance, how to email, code, speak to people in different countries/cities, and how to analyse candidate profiles and distil key information in a long format.

Overall, Meraki Talent has been a great experience and has made me realise what work life is like and I am now excited about what is coming next. The people I have met working here are helpful and very supportive and I want to give special thanks to Laura Drysdale, Alice Hudson, Jenna Gallagher and Richard Chase. 

Not one day of my internship have I ever dreaded coming to work which surprised me the most. Meraki is a great, welcoming environment to be in that has made me think, maybe the outside world isn’t so scary after all.
