Career Ready

For the past four weeks, I've been working for Meraki Talent in their Edinburgh office as part of my Career Ready programme.

Career Ready is designed for young people aged 16 to 18. Participants are assigned a mentor and then complete a four-week paid summer internship with their mentor's company.

Throughout my time at Meraki Talent, I've gained extremely valuable work experience and have really enjoyed working in an office environment.

My placement has helped me understand what a professional workplace looks like in the real world. I've also had the opportunity to meet clients, visit their offices, and speak to other interns from university programmes, which has given me a much better perspective on the opportunities available if I choose to go to university.

I'm still unsure what I would like to do long term after I leave school, so working in a recruitment company has been beneficial, as it has given me insight into other industries, such as law, technology, and finance. I've also had the opportunity during my internship to experience the operations side and behind-the-scenes of a recruit consultancy, along with all the administration that grequired.

I'd like to thank everyone at Meraki Talent for giving me such a warm welcome and for supporting me throughout my internship, especially Rhys Dow for mentoring me.

I'm now looking forward to having a few weeks off before going back for sixth year of high school after the summer!
